The slides are done, the first one as promised on hand hygiene and the second the first of a series on multi-drug resistant bacteria. Most have heard of MRSA (Methecillin Resistant Staph aureus) - if Dr. Phil knows about it, everyone must. Many don't know about VRE (Vancomycin Resistant Enterococci), Acinetobacter baumannii, or ESBLs (Extended Spectrum Beta-Lactamase gram-negative rods). The bugs continue to out-smart us and out-pace us.
The one thing we have going for us is the ability to PREVENT infections as long as we know how and actually wash and sanitize our hands.
